After ten years of fighting the battle over overtime pay is finally over for hundreds of Louisville firefighters.

Thursday night the Louisville Metro Council voted to approve the $45 million deal that gives 834 firefighters the money they have been owed.  $15.8 million will be paid out by Dec. 1, with two more payments in March and July.

Some firefighters could get as much as $100,000 before attorney fees and taxes.

However, how the two later payments will be made was not settled. The payments will either be financed by the sale of bonds or paid out of city reserves, but that it is likely the decision will not be made until next year.

The Metro Council also passed an ordinance requiring companies receiving city tax dollars for development projects to show how the money was spent if the information is requested by the mayor or the council.

This ordinance comes after the city gave The Cordish Company nearly one million dollars in a forgivable loan to renovate a bar at Fourth Street Live and the deal later went belly-up.
