LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – An organization known for a mission of healing and hope is renaming its school.

Maryhurst announced the name change during a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday. The school, formerly known as Maryhurst Academy, is now the Mary Jo and William MacDonald Maryhurst Academy.

The MacDonald’s have volunteered their time and donated to Maryhurst for nearly 40 years. The couple also established an endowed scholarship to provide financial support for Maryhurst alumnae in their college educations.

Maryhurst has been featured on ABC News and they’ve received national recognition from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute.

Maryhurst has cared for abused and neglected children for 170 years.
