LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings were saluted Saturday morning during the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and Mini-Marathon.
Before the race, there was a moment of silence to remember those who were hurt and killed nearly two weeks ago in Boston.
Runners also displayed their support by wearing blue and yellow ribbons on their chests.
More than 16,000 people signed up to run.
The Mini-Marathon winner, Pius Nyantika of Louisville, won first place in the men’s division finished at 1:03:16 and Etaferahu Temesgen of Silver Spring, Maryland placed first in the women’s division at 1:15:37.
Full Marathon winners were Getachew Asfaw in the men’s division came in at 2:19:50 and a time of 2:58:45 won Meghan Shagena first place in the women’s division.
