LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A newcomer to the Kentucky bourbon industry has announced plans to build a distillery and visitors' center in Louisville.
Louisville Distilling Co., the producer of Angel's Envy bourbon, unveiled plans Tuesday to invest about $12 million to renovate a building near the city's minor-league baseball stadium. The company plans to open the distillery next year.
The distillery will increase production capacity as the small-batch bourbon maker looks to expand its reach in the highly competitive industry.
The expansion plans have gotten a financial boost, thanks to an investment from a Louisville-based private equity firm.
The project deepens Louisville's whiskey-making ties. Michter's Distillery is working to transform a building into a distillery that will offer tours and tastings. Heaven Hill Distilleries plans to open a small downtown distillery this fall.
