LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A plaque of thanks was presented to John Hassman at his Middletown store, A Taste of Kentucky.

Commander Robert Figgs and other members of the crew on leave from the U.S.S. Louisville were visiting Louisville for the first time thanking Kentuckians who have supported them like Louisville Slugger and John Hassman.

The crew members also received another piece of Derby Pie for the road.

Hassman has sent Derby Pies to the crew of the U.S.S. Louisville every Christmas and Derby Day for the last 15 years.

Hassman also presented the crew with other boxed gifts because he has a special place in his heart for the Navy.

There were plenty of Louisvillians on hand to say thanks for keeping us safe and the crew members being invited to all sorts of places.

Cheers to the U.S.S. Louisville and to John Hassman who clearly has friends in high places.
