(WHAS11) -- A robbery, home invasion, shooting and manhunt here in Louisville Wednesday night, led Kentucky State Police to a house in Meade County early Thursday morning.
He was an outdoors type guy...
"He took good care of our yard. Derby cars, Derby Races. Loved working on cars and being outside," said Amy Shirley, Danny Embry's stepdaughter.
And Danny Embry's stepdaughter says he'd recently hit a rough patch when his grandmother died then his father shortly after.
Now, his family is dealing with his death.
"I'm mainly worried about my 11-year-old sister. She has to grow up without a dad," Amy said.
According to Kentucky State Police it was the commotion and manhunt that happened in Louisville that led them to Danny's house in Meade County.
A man called Jeffrey Lay, allegedly shot his brother in the head Wednesday night near Hazelwood Elementary School in Louisville.
He'd allegedly robbed someone, stole their car and invaded the home of someone else in Louisville.
When Louisville police finally caught him, Trooper Bruce Reeves said he told them he had something to do with a situation in Meade County.
"We sent troopers at this residence. Once our troopers arrived they found a person unresponsive. They made entry and discovered he was deceased," KSP Trooper Bruce Reeves said.
Pam Embry's ex-husband, Danny had been shot.
Apparently, Jeffrey Lay was going to tattoo a flag on Danny in remembrance of Danny's father.
"The way I take it, this guy wasn't even an enemy. I don't..." Pam Embry, Danny's ex-wife, said.
Police say Lay took jewelry from Danny's house. Danny's family says they can't understand why he had to die.
"He has family - people who is going to miss him," Amy said.
Lay's brother, we're told, is in fair condition.
Police say, at this point, they're not aware if he is connected to any other crimes.
