Louisville girl honored in D.C. for her commitment to volunteering

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville student will be honored in Washington. D.C. Monday for her volunteer work.

Madison Roy is a fifth- grader at Saint Raphael School. Roy, along with her older brother, co-wrote two books about leukemia and sickle cell anemia that have helped raised money to further research for both diseases.

Roy has been named one of "America's Top 10 Youth Volunteers." She will received $5,000 and a trip to the nation’s capital where she will be honored for her early commitment to volunteering.
