LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Cards fans were intensely focused on the game against No. 2 seeded Duke Sunday afternoon.
But after Kevin Ware came down hard, in a shocking leg injury, their hopes and prayers are with him.
"My heart was racing, I teared up. My heart was racing and I started sweating," Cards fan, Amy Healy said.
Another Cards fan, Shelby Bunel, said: "When I saw the replay it almost made me want to throw up."
Shelby Bunel and Amy Healy weren't exaggerating. It's the reaction felt by most Louisville Cards fans after Kevin Ware suffered a gruesome leg injury.
"He came down hard on that leg. I'm still shocked honestly," Cards fan, Robert Halsell said.
"That was the worst leg injury I've ever seen in college basketball I've ever seen. At first I didn't catch it until I saw the replay," Bunel said.
Cards fans at Lucas Oil Stadium were devastated, stunned by Ware's agonizing fall.
Many watching the game at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Highlands say it was surreal.
But as the Cards pulled away in the second half, there was a miraculous turn of events.
Fans say Ware's injury somehow propelled players to push even harder to a big win and the Final Four.
"I was just thinking about how much people cared and that's a good coach," a young Cards fan, Julian Lyon said.
Cards fan, Sherrick Oquinn, said "I just hope Kevin gets better you know. We're going to be praying for him. He's going to be in our prayers. He's a big part of this team."
The Cards went on to victory and held up Ware’s #5 jersey as they head to the Final Four.
Ware will be treated at an Indianapolis hospital Sunday night. Coach Rick Pitino will be staying with him, according to the University of Louisville.
