LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A committee of the Louisville Metro Council passed a proposal to help finance the reopening of Kentucky Kingdom.

The city and the Convention and Visitors Bureau agreed to provide financial incentives because they know that the park will create jobs and increase tourism.

The park developers must meet certain criteria first, including hiring a certain number of employees and making $42 million in improvements and renovations before 2016.

Kentucky Kingdom is expected to open in the summer of 2014.
