(WHAS11)—The University of Kentucky had paired with the Gheen’s Foundation to help try to keep students at the university.
UK believes it has found the solution to retention and has gotten a grant from the Louisville based Gheen’s foundation for $100,000.
The money will create new programs and have 25 mentors to help 100 students. The grant is aimed at keeping Jefferson Co. students who attend UK from leaving college early.
UK assigns mentors to at-risk students and are given individual academic support and guidance every year.
They said it will help create a “college family” atmosphere on the huge Kentucky campus.
