(WHAS11) - The tragic crash that claimed 11 lives occurred where Interstate 65 narrows to two lanes in each direction.
The Hart County judge executive tells WHAS11 News this has long been a dangerous stretch of interstate.
Requests have been made to widen I-65 from Elizabethtown to Bowling Green but so far the project has not been funded.
State police, the Transportation Department and a federal team took hours to measure, photograph and begin reconstructing one of the deadliest wrecks in Kentucky's history.
There were 11 people killed; the truck driver from Alabama and ten on the church bus from Cumberland County. Somehow two children in car seats survived.
The road has had multiple wrecks, injuries and deaths but nothing ever like this before.
Only time will tell if changes will be made in the wake of such a tragic crash.
