(WHAS11) One local doctor is in the giving spirit this Thanksgiving. Recognizing the need in the community, he chipped in to give those in need a new pair of shoes.
A Louisville orthopedic surgeon has teamed with the "Soles 4 Souls" charity to provide 150 people at The Healing Place with a brand new pair of shoes, donated by the Red Wing Shoe Company.
Dr. George Quill, sponsor of Soles 4 Souls, says people don't think about new shoes when donating to charity. "These guys we are going to see today are on their feet all the time; couple pair of nice, clean socks and well-fitting, sturdy shoes…" said Quill.
Quill says donations are down this year, even though the need continues to grow. He has distributed more than 24,000 shoes since he partnered with The Healing Place 5 years ago.
