Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) – If you ever decide to volunteer to be a Big Brother or Big Sister in Kentuckiana, you may wonder, how much is this going to cost me? After all, I’ve got to take this new person in my life to see different things.
Fortunately, in both Louisville and southern Indiana, a lot of places are eager to help give you a price break. For instance, the Louisville Bats host huge game nights for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
WHAS11’s Doug Proffitt went to one of them and met two individuals in a long-time Big Brother/Little Brother match.
The game has just started and it’s a home-run for the Louisville Bats.
It’s also a home-run for this 3-year-old Big Brother/Little Brother match of john and derrick.
Derrick is 13-years-old, and a night at a baseball game with john is also a break from his large family of brothers and sisters.
Three years ago, John moved to the Louisville area. Joining the Big Brothers program, and getting Derrick as a match helped him ease into his new home.
Jeri Swinton, the longtime director of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kentuckiana greets dozens of adults and their younger matches. The Louisville Bats works it out so that the organization has a special night.
As for John and Derrick, they'll be seeing a lot more baseball games together.
Judging by his attitude and personality, it's a future full of home runs for Derrick.
Other places around Louisville also donate tickets to shows and plays for members of the organization.
