LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Lightning is believed to be the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a Jeffersontown home early Monday morning.
The fire broke out in a home on the 4800 block of Paddock Springs Drive in the Saratoga Springs subdivision around midnight.
Officials said 20 firefighters worked to put out the flames after the blaze started in the attic and spread to the second floor.
There was a lot of lightning in the area when the fire started.
"It's a common thing when you have this much lightning in the area, lightning does weird things, it's going to find something to short it out and it hit the house and cause the fire," Jefferstown Fire Department chief Sean Dresbach said.
Everyone inside the home was able to make it out safely and no firefighters were injured, but the house did sustain extensive damage.
