(WHAS11) -- A couple of UofL fans slash businessmen wanted to put up a billboard in Lexington that said "Lexington is for the birds."

Over the weekend it was partially torn down along I-64 in Frankfort. On Monday, July 30, the sign is gone.

The mystery is now solved.  WHAS11 has gotten official word of what happened to a UofL billboard in Frankfort.

The billboard said “Lexington is for the Birds.” Two Cards fans/businessmen wanted the billboard up in Lexington but they settled for Frankfort.  They sold enough bumper stickers to pay for the sign but over the weekend the sign came down. Those responsible for the sign thought it was vandals, possibly even UK fans.  But that’s not the case.

Now the advertising company, Lamar Advertising, says it was brought down by high winds from Friday night.  Since it was an act of nature, the sign is insured and will be replaced in the next couple weeks.
