HODGENVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The Hodgenville Police Department has released dash cam video showing LaRue County Superintendent Sam Sanders failing his sobriety test after being pulled over in the early hours of Saturday morning, March 29.

“I don’t care if it’s the school superintendent, administrator, news reporter or another officer if they’ve been drinking…or the average person on the street. I want them all treated the same and treated fairly,” Chief Steve Johnson said.

The video shows Sanders struggling to walk in a straight line and stand on one leg. Sanders was pulled over after an officer saw him pull out in front of a car and speed away.

“Evidently he pulled out in front of the vehicle and could have caused an accident,” Johnson said.

Johnson confirmed that Sanders was in a school issued vehicle when he was pulled over.
According to the police report, officers smelled alcohol on Sanders and he apparently had bloodshot eyes.

While police were administering field sobriety tests Sanders’ wife approached officers. The couple lives up the road from where he was pulled over. Johnson said once officers had placed Sanders in the car and he was under arrest they said she reached for the door.

Sanders is charged with DUI, first offense, and speeding in excess of 15 over the speed limit. Sanders is expected to be arraigned on April 9.

This week LaRue County Schools are on spring break, but the LaRue County Board of education will now hold a special call meeting Tuesday night, April 1, at 7 p.m.
