LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Police are investigating the sexual assault and murder of a 62-year-old woman in her own home.
The attack happened in mid-November but the victim died from her injuries last week.
“Whew, that's sad,” neighbor Princilla McClure said.
Neighbors just learned of Sheila Devine's murder.
“That is sad. I hope they caught whoever done it,” McClure said.
Police don’t have any suspects yet and police say they don't know how many people were involved in the attack.
“We got a call from a family member of Sheila Devine, apparently they entered her apartment in the 4200 block of Norbrook Drive and they noticed that she was unresponsive,” Alicia Smiley of Louisville Metro Police said.
McClure was there when Devine's daughter found her.
“I seen her daughter, she went up the steps and I was still down here getting the bags out of my car and I just heard her daughter come out, she was all hysterical and all, and said her mother was unconscious and said her mother had been beaten and raped,” McClure said.
Police say there was no sign of forced entry at Devine's apartment in the Norfolk neighborhood off Fegenbush Lane.
Neighbors say she was trusting of people and they fear she was too trusting.
