LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) --- A Louisville teen shot in the head Monday night continues to recover at University Hospital. The shooting happened around 10 p.m. in the 700 Block of Caldwell Street in the Smoketown neighborhood.

Family has identified the victim as 17-year-old Demetrius Hurt. He is expected to survive, but family said he may never be the same.

His aunt Arquilla Booker told WHAS11 what she believes led up to Monday night's shooting.

"He had just walked his girlfriend home and him and two other friends was with him. And a dude rolled up on a bicycle and asked him about a bicycle that belonged to his little brother and he said he didn’t know nothing about it, so they shot him in the head," Booker said.

Booker admits Hurt is not perfect, but describes him as a good kid and loving brother. He is a triplet. She said her nephew goes to Atherton High School and works at Sav-A-Lot.

She's asking for prayers and is making an emotional plea to kids to stop the violence.

"He is fighting. You know he's a strong kid. We are just praying and asking everybody else to pray and asking the kids to just stop, stop, it does no good, stop,” Booker said. “Look around your circles, those circles are getting short, getting short. We are just asking everybody for prayers right now and praying for the child who shot him."

Police are still looking for the suspect in this case. If you have any information, call 574-LMPD.

"You keep a whole lot of conflict down and a lot of more killing, whoever it was just give yourself up, to protect your family and mine we all can pray together, you know just please stop," Booker said.
