NELSON CO., Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Kentucky trucker is being hailed a hero for helping a jailer who was getting choked by a prisoner he was transporting.

The Nelson County sheriff says a juvenile suspect got loose while being transported in the back of Spencer County jailer Darrell Herndon's car on Bluegrass Parkway.

The juvenile was able to slip out of his restraints, got through the safety screen and started choking Herndon from behind.

Herndon pulled over and that's when a truck driver saw the scene and stopped to help.

As the jailer was getting out of the car the suspect grabbed his gun and pointed it at both men.

He tried to fire the gun but wasn't able to and that's when the trucker was able to get the gun.

“I done what I had to do. All I could think about was getting that man home,” Clinton Blackburn, the truck driver, said.

Clinton Blackburn is a driver with Apollo Oil of Winchester, Ky. Neither he nor the jailer was hurt.
