LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) – Dozens of soldiers with the 149th Vertical Construction Company returned just in time for the holidays.
The men and women arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington Sunday afternoon.
The troop spent nearly a year in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
For the soldiers and their families, the end of their tour of duty couldn’t have happened at a better time of the year.
"Oh it’s fantastic the whole family is ecstatic. I know his dad has been worried about him, he's glad to have him home. We’re all just glad to have him home, it's a great moment," Ami Enis, whose cousin just arrived home, said.
Since September 11, 2001, an estimated 16,000 Kentucky National Guard soldiers and airmen have mobilized in support of the war on terror.
