LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A message from a Kentucky family who lost their loved one to cancer journeyed more than 600 miles to inspire a man fighting for his life.
Last January, Gary Stevenson died of lung cancer. He was the former pastor of Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Harned, Kentucky.
This year, his family released balloons filled with inspirational messages to mark the one year anniversary of his death.
Less than 24 hours later, the family received a call from a man in Ontario, Canada saying he found one of the balloons.
“And then he said, I’m fighting cancer too. I said oh my goodness, God’s all over this,” cancer widow Wanda Stevenson said. “And he said where he found out by the pond when he went out to pray by the pond, I just think God got so far out in that wind, he just said this is it, it’s for God.”
The Canadian man, Gord Ure, is fighting lymphoma.
The Stevenson’s have added him to the top of their prayer list at church.
