Wednesday morning we'll know when some Jefferson County residents including all public school students will have a chance to get the swine flu vaccine.
But even though people are lining up for the shots in other counties, Jefferson County residents will wait a while longer.
Wednesday, Mayor Abramson and the director of the Metro Health Department will announce plans to start vaccinating everyone in Jefferson County with vaccinations at schools around the end of the month.
Metro Louisville has been allocated tens of thousands of vaccinations and sent them to hospitals and other health care providers to vaccinate workers and high-risk patients.
We'll find out when the public can line up for vaccinations like they did in Bullitt County Tuesday night. The line stretched around the parking lot and down hall as hundreds waited to get the H1N1 vaccine in Bullitt County.
"I've heard about how bad the swine flu is so I just want to protect her," said Cari Spadie, who got her daughter vaccinated.
Kenny Phelps said, "We feel like it's a good idea to get the shot. With all of the warnings, we're going to go ahead and take heed of it."
"You'd do it for smallpox or anything else and this is another epidemic," said Shelly Kelly.
It’s an epidemic on the minds of parents standing in this line for hours for this shot.
The health department received 1500 vaccinations and only people 6 months to 24 years old, health care workers, care takers and those who have compromised immune systems were eligible to get the shot Tuesday night.
"Up front we have people that work support staff. They're looking at everybody and making sure they're eligible and once they're eligible they fill out their paperwork, they actually loop around to actually see the nurses at that point," said Dr. Swannie Jett, Director Bullitt Co. Health Department.
That’s where they get the shot and some sense of relief, telling WHAS11 it was worth the wait.
The Bullitt County Health Department will be holding more clinics as the vaccine comes in.
They will be posting those on their website. The Jefferson County announcement on who can get it and when will be right here Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m.
