LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Kentucky Derby Museum filed a lawsuit against Steve Clements Catering Company.
The museum accuses Clements of cooking the books over a period of about two years while his company catered for the museum.
The museum claims breach of contract and fraud because of alleged false accounting practices.
They believe the catering company's customer invoices didn't match up with the numbers submitted to the museum.
According to the lawsuit, the contract states the catering company pays the museum a percentage of its food and alcohol receipts.
This week Clements also abruptly closed his Bardstown Road restaurant Avalon.
The museum is asking for compensatory and punitive damages.
The following is a statement from the Kentucky Derby Museum:
Due to unresolved conflicts we felt it necessary to file suit against Steve Clements, owner/operator of Clements Catering on Friday, July 6th. Since this is now a matter for the courts, the Kentucky Derby Museum cannot make any further comments regarding this situation.
