LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – There are all kinds of triathlons for adults but finding one for children is nearly impossible.
So when Nikki Weis’ son said he wanted to participate in a triathlon like his parents, there was only one option – start a triathlon for children.
This is the second year for the Douglass Hills Kids Try-Athlon.
Children from ages 6 to 15 compete in three activities which include swimming, biking, and running.
“The main thing this is all about is just getting kids to stay active and to try something different,” Weis, the event’s race director said. “Too many kids want to sit at home on the couch with electronics nowadays it’s kinda easy to do so this is a way to get kids active and healthy.”
More than 200 children participated in the triathlon today.
Event creator Nikki Weis said she’s now working to create a family triathlon where parents and kids can compete together.
