(WHAS11) – Six hours before a blizzard is forecasted to descend on parts of Kentuckiana, the Indiana Department of Transportation was already heading out to start treating the roads. And by midnight, about 175 trucks will be trying to minimize the buildup of ice and snow.

Though only parts of Indiana have blizzard warnings, there are winter weather alerts across Kentuckiana all including rain before the snow. INDOT says that affects how they are treating the roads.

“We have another storm that's coming in that’s producing that rain mix ice early on, and that hurts us from being able to put the brine in”, Greg Prince with Indot said.

Kentucky transportation officials say they are monitoring the street conditions, but aren't taking any special action at this point because of the rain.  State offices will be open on Wednesday, but non-essential employees don't have to come in, if they can't get to work safely.
