LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kentucky State Police recognized the last surviving member of the very first cadet class.

Chester Potter was in that class back in 1948 when the organization was just getting started.

The 83-year-old Pikeville resident was honored recently for his service.

Potter retired back in 1975 as a lieutenant after 27 years on the force.
