LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - - Metro Louisville in the past week has seen three motorcycle deaths on Louisville roadways.
The summer months always see a spike in deadly motorcycle crashes, often being called trauma season. Kentucky State Police are trying to reduce that number.
On Friday KSP held a motorcycle safety event at their headquarters in Frankfort.
Police say motorcycle crashes are up 52 percent in Kentucky from this time in 2011.
Officers say motorcyclists and drivers both need to be aware of what's going on around them on the roads.
KSP are also partnering with a new motorcycle safety program called Rider Alert.
Rider Alert will provide free ID and data cards that contain things like personal information, and any important medical history.
Those cards will be placed inside a rider's helmet and will help first responders in the event of a serious accident.
