FRANKFORT, Ky. (WHAS11) -- She's the YouTube girl from the 2008 election that sang about her allegiance to Barack Obama. The political satire is back in the news, but targeting Senate Candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes.

A picture is circulating with a superimposed face of Grimes on Obama Girl's body.

That picture ended up getting re-tweeted by a junior staffer with on the National Republican Senatorial Committee, asking if she was the "new Obama Girl."

Grimes’ campaign called it a "sexualized attack."

"McConnell's political team has repeatedly used sexist and offensive attacks to try to demean and undermine my candidacy . . . just earlier this year they called me an “empty dress" and a "cheerleader,” Alison Lundergan Grimes said.

It even led Alison's grandmother Elsie Case to weigh in.

"Senator McConnell, you owe the women of Kentucky an apology,” Case said. “There are a million of us mothers and grandmothers in Kentucky who think Team Mitch ought to wash their mouths out with soap.”

The NRSC tweet linked to a blog post by Marcus Carey.  Carey’s blog, the Bluegrass Bulletin, took aim at Grimes' recent fund raising event hosted in New York by first lady Michelle Obama. The photo he posted likened Grimes to the Obama Girl. He says it's a post he doesn't regret at all.

"The real question should be: Did you, Alison, attend a fundraiser where you were identified as a reliable vote and defender of Obama's agenda, including gun control and Obamacare?” Carey said.

McConnell's Women for Team Mitch weighed in on a conference call on the back and forth over Obama Girl, sexism and issues facing Kentuckians.

"It's very disappointing to see Alison Grimes kind of cutely avoid those issues and instead, focus on things that are not at the forefront of voters minds," former Congresswoman, Anne Northup said.

"I find it ridiculous that some tweet from a lower-level staffer is something we are having a press conference on and we are trying to deal with it and Alison Lundergan Grimes is trying to make a big deal out of," former Chairwoman of the Republican Party of Kentucky, Ellen Williams said.

The tweet and the link have since been removed from the NRSC Twitter feed.
