LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)- It took the committee a little over an hour and a half to deliberate, then unanimously vote to have Judy Green removed from her seat.
The committee chair of the council court called this a dark day for the council but a move that had to be taken.
"I think there has been a cloud over this council for six months and I believe what we did today removed that cloud. We accepted as a council our most dire responsibility to try to review whether or not to remove a colleague . That's not easy to do," says Kelly Downard, Chair Of The Council Court.
Council members spent the last two days hearing from witnesses on whether or not to have the embattled council member removed.
Green faced two charges over two big issues, the $7,500 grant given to 100 black men in 2009, which was to be used by the nonprofit for a mentoring program; and for her management of a summer jobs program for youth that same year, in which at least 10 of her family members worked.
Green was not present at the hearings. Constituents in her district have mixed views on her removal.
"The same thing she was doing a lot of them were doing. They just ain't got caught," said a member of her district, who did not want to be named.
"Once you put it behind her she can move on with her life and they move on with whoever they have to replace her with," says Tyrone Michard.
An ethics commission already found Green guilty of misusing taxpayer money. Green has repeatedly denied those allegations.
While an exact dollar amount is not yet known, the Green hearings are estimated to have cost taxpayers thousands of dollars
"And I think the community was looking and watching to see if we had the courage to go through with what we should do without responsibilities and I think we did that," says Downard.
