LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kids at Kosair Children's Hospital got some very special visitors on Friday, June 28.
Some of the biggest names in horse racing took time before races at Churchill Downs to bring toys to young patients and meet with them and their families.
More than a dozen jockeys made the annual trip to Kosair including hall of famer Pat day and three-time derby winner Calvin Borel.
"For our children, particularly our children in the pediatric cancer unit who can spend up to 120 days in that unit and not leave it on any given day, to have something uplifting like a visit from a jockey at Churchill Downs really brightens their day," Leslie Smart, with the Children’s Hospital Foundation, said.
The surprises for the kids weren’t over when the jockeys left. They got a special visit this afternoon--from members of the Harlem Globetrotters.
