JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A research company has named Jeffersonville, Indiana one of the top most 100 dangerous cities in America.
Jeffersonville is the 88th most dangerous city on the list from neighborhood scout.
They analyzed the number of crimes per 1,000 residents both violent crimes like murder, rape and assault and property crimes like burglary.
Neighborhood Scout says the chances of being a victim of violent or property crime is one in 16.
they say Jeffersonville has one of the highest rates of vehicle theft in the nation.
The assistant chief in Jeffersonville acknowledged the crime numbers when WHAS11 called him, but says they have dropped in every category. To help, more officers are out of offices and on the streets. He added that "its safe to walk down the streets."
