LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – 40 local artists from around the area perfected pumpkins for the city’s newest Halloween destination.

Beginning Wednesday, the artists’ pumpkins will light up a wooded walking trail at Iroquois Park for the city’s Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular.

Artists say it’s a great family, friendly event that they hope becomes a new tradition for the city.

“New York has New Year's, Chicago has St. Patrick's Day, [and] Louisville has Halloween. That's like the thing here. I think this will become a new tradition, people will bring their kids to year after year after year and hopefully they'll bring their own kids to it when they grow up."

You won't see the same pumpkins day after day. The artists will be working on new ones throughout the event since pumpkins can rot so quickly.

The Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular runs October 10 through November 2.

The trail will be open from 7 p.m. to midnight during the week and 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Tickets range from $9 to $15 with proceeds going to Kosair Charities and the Parks Foundation.
