LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- More than a dozen Jefferson County Middle School students are recovering at area hospitals after a school bus accident early Friday morning.

Eighteen Kammerer Middle School students were taken by ambulance to the hospital from school after complaining of pain after that accident. Forty-eight students were on board bus #9975 when it went into a ditch at Lime Kiln Lane and US 42.

According to Jefferson County Schools, the bus got stuck in the mud.

Since the accident happened so close to the school, the kids were taken to Kammerer where EMS crews checked students out. As the day continued students did start complaining of pain.

Nine were taken to Kosair-Brownsboro and nine were taken to Kosair downtown.

According to a spokesperson with Norton Healthcare, the injuries are minor.

Students suffered bruises and soreness. Each student is expected to make a full recovery.
