LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Heroin is a growing problem in our community and nationwide.

No matter where you live, it can affect you.

There was an explosion in heroin arrests from 2009 to 2013. In 2009, there were only 52 arrests. In 2013, that number jumped to more than 1,300.

LMPD's Phil Russell has more on why this drug is taking over the streets and what can be done to stop it in the video player above.
