(WHAS11) - Police say couples desperately wanting to have a baby were allegedly duped by an Indianapolis woman.
Christina White, 27, is charged with receiving at least $5,000 for living expenses from multiple adoption agencies and families.
Police say she promised her unborn baby to four couples seeking to adopt. Court documents say her child was born in December, and placed into foster care.
Jack Rinehart, the Indianapolis prosecutor, says her alleged crime was like having another miscarriage. “Because rooms were already decorated, the nurseries were decorated to welcome the babies home and that of course never happened.
In February, another Indianapolis woman was charged with adoption fraud. Investigators believe Amber Jackson, 28, and a mother of five, made side deals with four families and two agencies when she wasn’t even pregnant.
