LAKE STATION, Ind. (ABC NEWS) -- An Indiana teacher is on leave after presumably writing a threatening message to students.

Tenth grader Jocelyne Chavez was stunned when she saw a message, presumably written by her business teacher last week. It read "A you are idiots, B the guns are loaded and C care to try me?"

Students at Edison Junior Senior High snapped a picture of the chalkboard message, which has prompted a police investigation.

Lake Station detectives have been meeting with school officials and interviewing students. School officials confirm the message was in fact written by the teacher who has worked at the school for about 28 years.

They say he has no disciplinary history and he will not be in class pending the outcome of the investigation.

Some say the teacher has a reputation for having a short fuse.

The teacher's name has not been released. So far no charges had been filed. Police say they will compile a report and submit it to prosecutors.
