INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Police say a 9-year-old Indianapolis boy is recovering after he was shot in the back while riding his bicycle through an apartment complex.
Indianapolis police say Kavon Jones was taken to Riley Hospital for Children in good condition following Friday's shooting. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police investigators told WISH-TV that a group of about 30 children were playing football when the shots were fired at The Villages at Mill Crossing on the city's east side. The 9-year-old boy was riding his bike when a bullet pierced his lower back.
Witnesses told police a man driving an older model gray car with three passengers had pulled into the complex when one of the passengers got out, began shooting and then fled on foot.
