LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- An Occupy Louisville march slowed traffic on Bardstown Road for about two hours Saturday afternoon, reflecting the attitudes of similar groups across the country and world.

The protest loudly and forcefully grabbed the attention of people watching.

"The feeling I see on the streets right now is something that I feel myself," said Will Fenster, a Louisville native who supports the movement.

Onlookers recorded the march with their phones. Some honked or cheered. Others stared with no choice but to wait until the protesters passed.

"I think there's a more effective way than parading down the streets," said John Bright. "(But) I mean everyone has their own opinion and voice."

Aimme Smiley saw Occupy Wall Street demonstrators in New York and joined more than one hundred others in the Louisville group it spawned.

"The corporations have been profiting on the backs of people for a long time from foreclosures to environmental devastation to job loss to shipping jobs overseas to not paying their fair share of taxes," said Smiley, who held a "People over profits" signs in the march. "The atrocities are endless."

But even those who support the grassroots movement that's described as non-partisan question if the protests will lead to real change.

"I don't see a lot of any traction being gained," added Fenster. "I like to be optimistic, but really, no, no."

 Smiley thinks differently.

"Just taking to the streets and having a voice heard so the people in power can hear you is extremely powerful," she said.

"I don't think yelling and beating a drum will change it," said another onlooker, Ben Roberts.

But the beating and yelling is sure to continue for those who want to Occupy Louisville.
