HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Bars in Hopkinsville would have to close at 1 a.m. instead of just halting alcohol sales at that time under a new ordinance being weighed by city officials.
The Hopkinsville City Council is set to discuss the idea of an earlier closing time on May 7.
Currently, bars are not allowed to serve alcohol past 1 a.m., but they do not have to kick people out. The Hopkinsville Police Department requested the change because they receive a lot of calls from downtown after hours.
Capt. Michael Seis told the Kentucky New Era (http://bit.ly/XZHxpq ) police hope the new measure would minimize disturbances downtown.
Brewster's Bar and Grill owner Garret Troke says he doesn't like the idea of being told when to shut down, even though he already closes at 1 a.m.
