(WHAS11) -    LEXINGTON, Ky (WHAS)--Saying it's just his time to move on, University of Kentucky President Lee Todd spoke glowingly of his time as the leader of the university.  It's an announcement that's sending shockwaves through campus, surprising even one of the schools most recognizable faces, basketball Coach John Calipari.
Calipari said he felt a pit in his stomach when Todd informed him of the decision.  Todd's plan to retire at the end of the 2010-2011 school year will likely bring changes both academic and athletic. Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart says the responsibility falls on everyone at the university to continue growing.
Todd, who became president back in 2001, will be 65-years-old when he calls it quits in June. With rumors board members are split on his performance as president, Todd quickly said those Dulles aren't true. He says his love for UK is still there, it's just his time to go.
Todd says he'll retire on June 6th 2011.
