LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- We frequently hear about the health benefits of red wine, but there might be some good news for beer drinkers as well.

There are a lot of unknown healthy benefits to your brew.

Beer actually contains the same amount of antioxidants as wine and the protein and b-vitamin content of beer is higher than that in wine.

Beer also contains silicon, which is found in few foods, and is linked to bone strength.

Experts say that the alcohol level in beer mostly cancels out these benefits.

As for calories, a 12-ounce bottle of beer has anywhere from 95 to 360 calories.

By comparison, a five ounce glass of wine will run you about 120 calories.
