HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A former Hardin County middle school teacher is behind bars, accused of sexually abusing a student and having sexually charged communications with that student over an electronic device.

Anthony Durrant, 46, was arrested Wednesday afternoon. He had been a sixth grade social studies teacher at James T. Alton Middle School from June of 2010 until his termination Tuesday.

Police were contacted over the weekend by a parent who allegedly discovered sexually charged communications between the student and Durrant.

They included a nude picture of the young victim, which was sent by the child to Durrant.

"An inappropriate touch, a fondling of the buttocks involving Durrant and the victim was reported at James T. Alton Middle School on Friday, " Radcliff Police Department Spokesman Bryce Shumate said.

Hardin County Schools terminated Durrant after authorities completed their investigation. Durrant turned himself in to police Wednesday afternoon.

He faces two felony charges, and is being held in the Hardin County Jail under a $25,000 bond.

Investigators searched Durrant's Vine Grove home for additional evidence in the case and to determine whether there were other possible victims.
