SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Shepherdsville continues to build centers bearing company names we're used to popping up on computer screens, like Zappos and Amazon. Wednesday, developers broke ground on a new building, meaning more jobs for Kentuckiana.
“We've got a full 4 way interchange right on I-65. We are one mile from this location and we've got great visibility from I-65. So, this is the perfect location. Louisville is a great community to invest in,” Brian Quigley, of Dermody Properties, said.
It's just dirt and gravel right now, but soon this space will hold a sprawling 624 thousand foot facility. In the past 12 years, more than 9 million square feet of industrial businesses went up in the Shepherdsville area.
“It's all about logistics. It's all about the product moving in and moving out of this area. We are only 12 miles from the UPS world hub,” Quigley, said.
Like their neighbors, Zappos and Gilt Groupe, the future tenant of this space will be equipped to house similar cutting edge technology to bring merchandise to your door faster.
“We want same day delivery, that's what we're moving to. We’re moving from next day delivery to same day delivery. We've got to have the product ready to go right to the airport within hours,” Quigley, said.
Investors and developers are looking towards the future when it comes to building new facilities. It's all about Internet fulfillment.
“There are actually 40 users who are interested in this building. There are a number of buildings going up simultaneously, about 2 and a half million square feet. So, those users are talking to our competition. All 5 buildings. So, we think we got a fair shot. We think we got a location advantage,” Quigley, said.
Construction is scheduled to finish by January.
