(WHAS11) – A grand jury has indicted Josh Young, 15, on charges of murder and tampering with evidence. Young will be tried as an adult in the murder of Trey Zwicker.

Trey Zwicker, 14, was found beaten to death in a ditch near Liberty High School in May. A month after the death, Trey's stepfather, Josh Gouker, and his step son, Young, disappeared and were later found in Alabama.

Gouker is currently behind bars on unrelated charges and Young, Trey's step-brother is charged in Zwicker's death.

For the capital offense of murder, Young could get 20 yeras to 50 years, life, life without parole, life without parole for 25 years or death.  This can also carry a fine of $1,000 - $10,000 or double the defendant's gain, whichever is greater.

For tampering with physical evidence he could get 1 to 5 years.  This can also carry a fine of $1,000 - $10,000 or double the defendant's gain, whichever is greater.

WHAS11’s Anna Prendergast spoke with Trey Zwicker’s father shortly after the announcement that Josh Young will be tried as an adult and for the first time, Trey’s father is releasing details about the night his son was killed.

Terry Zwicker says Josh Young and his son Trey were friends but that they were not told they were stepbrothers until shortly before Trey’s murder.

Zwicker says that back in May the two teens were at his ex-wife’s house the night of the murder and says the teens snuck out of the house and ended up at Liberty High School.

Trey’s body was found the next day behind the school.  He had been beaten to death.
Terry just wants to know why this happened.

Josh Young was a pall bearer at Trey’s funeral.

A month later he disappeared with his father – Josh Gouker – but they were caught in Alabama.

That’s when Young was charged with the murder.  Gouker has not been charged in the case.
Trey’s mother has been at court appearances but hasn’t talked publicly.

Zwicker says he will be in court when Young faces a jury and judge.

“I want it to go as far as it will go, you know, bring back the chair,” he said.

On the police report released Thursday, it says that on the night that Zwicker was killed, police say that Young got rid of the murder weapon.

Josh Young will be arraigned Monday.
