Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11)- Governor Steve Beshear talked about how expanded gambling would benefit Kentucky, under a constitutional amendment revealed Tuesday.
Beshear says selling casino licenses could bring in $266 million with another $377 million every year in casino taxes.
Among the places that money would go: job creation, education, health care, and local governments.
Up to five of Kentucky’s eight racetracks would get casinos as well as two other locations.
But not everyone is happy with the plan.
“They want to convince Kentuckians that they should lose their money to those same casinos,” says Martin Cothran of the Family Foundation.
Before we the people can vote on that amendment this fall, it first needs the support of 60 percent of both the house and senate.
