BRANDENBURG, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A crash at the intersection of Highways 313 and 333 Thursday night sent four people to the hospital and killed one young mother. 27-year-old Brandenburg woman, Sarah Hottell. Now, friends and family are remembering the light she brought to their lives.
Wicked sharp; that’s Sarah Hottell, friends say. Beautiful, kind, caring, smart. She was a loving mother to son Tanner. A devoted wife to her high school sweetheart; a Breckinridge County High School teacher and head football coach Brent Hottell. A beloved sister and daughter, lost in an instant.
It was at the intersection of 313 and 333 that Kentucky State Police say Sarah failed to stop and collided with a Meade County ambulance and one other car. Sarah died at the scene. Her 10-month-old son survived because he was strapped safely into his car seat, a final, loving act by his mother to protect his life.
The ambulance was not on an emergency run at the time. Two EMTs were injured, 49-year-old Todd Flory from Vine Grove and 48-year-old Michael Wise from Payneville were hurt in the crash. One suffered a crushed pelvis, the other serious back injuries. Both were flown to UofL hospital. A friend says they’re mourning Sarah’s death, as well.
“I know personally that the EMS people are really hurting,” Tiffany Barr said, “I think they knew Sarah as well, so I think they’re really saddened by it.”
Sarah was the pharmacy manager at a Rite Aid in Brandenburg. Her family says she loved her job and her patients. It’s the kind of tragedy that shakes the very foundation of a small community.
Funeral services for Sarah will be held on Monday, Jan. 14 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church in Brandenburg.
