LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- Louisville Metro Council unanimously voted to allow the site of a former landfill to be sold as surplus property.

The vote will enable the 23 acres near Frankfort Avenue and River Road to be transformed into a Waterfront Botanical Garden.  The plan for the garden was introduced by the non-profit group, Botanica.

The group signed a lease in June with Metro Government for the use of the site.
