LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The holiday season is just around the corner and Kentucky’s first lady is hoping the public will give back to the men and women serving the country.
Jane Beshear, Madeline Abramson and local military members were at Dunn Elementary School Monday to help the Red Cross kick off its Holiday Mail for Heroes event.
Dunn students spent part of the day making cards to send to members of the military who are currently deployed or hospitalized.
Mrs. Beshear says the project isn’t just for kids.
"The mail for heroes is just to me a wonderful opportunity for our children, our grade school children, and really can be adults. [It] can be any group that wants to get involved with this to be able to make these cards themselves and for these to all be sent overseas,” she said.
The public is encouraged to make cards and drop them off at the Louisville Red Cross.
The Red Cross will also be hosting a holiday Mail for Heroes event at Oxmoor Center on Saturday, November 16 where you can make and sign cards.
