LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Wednesday's severe thunderstorm that rolled through Kentuckiana damaged the First Choice Market of the Park Duvalle neighborhood.

Both front awnings were ripped off the building puncturing several holes in the roof. The window in the produce department was also cracked.

The storm also knocked out power to the store causing a lot of the food to be thrown out, but before that happened the owner of the store called in Chef Derrick Jackson to try and grill up as much meat as possible so it wasn't a complete loss.

When people living in the area noticed they went to the store to buy what they could from small sandwiches to pork chop sandwiches.

"…the First Choice Market is very involved in the community whether the lights are on or not we're still going to try our best to go over the top with customer service," Jackson said.

The store reopened Thursday, July 11, afternoon selling non-perishable groceries. All perishable products such as frozen foods, leftover meat and milk had to be thrown out.
