CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Police in Clarksville said they are investigating a deadly house fire as a crime scene.

The property surrounding the home in the 400 block of Randolph Avenue is blocked off with police tape after the fire broke out in the home Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called out to the area around 5:30 a.m. when neighbors said they smelled smoke.

Firefighters said they had the blaze contained by 6:15 a.m., but two people in the home were killed.

After the fire was put out, Clarksville police placed evidence markers across the property and  took photos of the scene.

The fire chief said he believes the fire started in the kitchen area, but further investigation is needed to be sure.

The name of the victims have not been released.

WHAS11's Maggie Ruper is working to find out more information about this story and will have a live report coming up during the evening newscasts.
